His brass foundry, smelter and chimney can be seen on the right hand side of the photograph. Photo: UWO Archives. For $132,900, someone with a passion for history can purchase one of the treasures of SoHo’s past. That treasure is the aluminum-sided cottage at 121 Clarence Street, the long-time home of John Law. Law, a pioneer plumber, gas fitter, brass and bell founder and inventor, operated one of SoHo’s more interesting businesses. His final foundry was located right behind his home, at the end of Hill Street beside the river. That factory eventually became the Canadian Smelting and Refining Works – operating at least into the 1950s. SoHo is excited to welcome these two companies to the neighbourhood, this will certainly give the area a boost and help to further rejuvenate Horton st. Sponsored by the City of London and coordinated by the London Community Resource Centre, the community garden is a shared piece of land where people rent garden plots and grow vegetables, fruits and herbs of their choice. Plots are 100% organic and can be rented on a geared-to-income basis, which allows them to be affordable to all. Per season price ranges from $15 to $40 for a 400-square feet plot. SOHO Community Association - June/July 2021

 It is a time for transition for the SoHo Community Association. James Shelley, who has been serving as the president of the community association since February 21, 2019, is moving out of the neighbourhood and therefore stepping down from the board. Upon his resignation, Jessica Justrabo, who was elected Vice-President on February 21, 2019, has assumed the role of Acting President, effective June 23, 2021. Soho Community Association Board Transitions Jessica will continue to work with Laurie Bursch (Treasurer) and Leia Beland (Secretary) as acting president until such a time as pandemic restrictions allow for community elections to be held safely in order to appoint a new president. Continue reading → At 2 a.m. on May 25, 1905, one of London’s most spectacular fires lit up the skies of downtown London. That fire was at Dyment-Baker Lumber, on the northeast corner of Bathurst and Wellington Streets. Before the fire was contained, some 10 hours later, it also damaged much of the London Machine Tool Company; lumber at the nearby Tambling and Jones yard, and six Michigan Central Railroad freight cars. Continue reading →  Association News – Upcoming Election for President Resignation of Cheri McLeod  With a heavy heart, we would like to announce that Cheri McLeod has decided to step down as President of the association. Cheri has been with us since November, and although her tenure has been short, it has definitely had a tangible impact upon our neighbourhood.  Cheri’s resignation will be effective pending the appointment of a replacement. She will remain in London for a period of time to help ease the transition and will then be returning to Collingwood to be with her family.  If you would like to help see Cheri off, please join us at the Victoria Tavern on Thursday, February 18th a
